The Golden Eagles had two chances last week to pick up their first road victory of the season but failed both times. Marquette fell 3-1 (24-30, 30-26, 28-30, 21-30) to cross-town rival Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Wednesday night. Senior Kim Todd led Marquette with 23 kills and junior Ashlee Fisher contributed 16 with a .225 hitting percentage.
The team headed east to take on Syracuse Friday, and again lost 3-1 (26-30, 30-25, 21-30, 29-31). Once more, Todd and Fisher led the team with 16 kills each, while sophomore setter Caryn Mastandrea posted her first career double-double with 17 assists and 10 digs.
Marquette's record is now 8-10 overall, including a 5-3 mark in the Big East. The Golden Eagles are in a three-way tie for fifth in the conference. With four of the next six matches on the schedule coming on the road, Marquette will have to win away from the Al McGuire Center in order to make the Big East Tournament.
