- Dick Enberg will speak at the Class of 2009's graduation on May 17.
- He plans to impart with seniors, Al McGuire's "pearls of wisdom."
Sports broadcaster and 2009 commencement speaker Dick Enberg said he wants to impart to seniors at this year's graduation on May 17 what his good friend Al McGuire would have said if he were still alive today. Enberg and McGuire first met when they were working together at NBC.
The lessons McGuire taught Enberg, "will make for a solid foundation for the information I'd like to share with the graduating seniors," said Enberg, who partnered with McGuire on NBC Sports college basketball broadcasts after McGuire retired from coaching in the late 1970s.
Promising to deliver many of McGuire's "pearls of wisdom," Enberg said McGuire's basic philosophy was to follow your passion and not be afraid to travel your own path.
"You have to allow life to come to you. You can chase life and you'll find it in various ways. It brings some incredible surprises," Enberg said.
