The Marquette track team left room for improvement Friday after finishing last at the Notre Dame Invitational.
Both the men's and women's teams placed last in a competition that included Notre Dame, Michigan State and the Wisconsin Badgers. The Irish took first in both contests.
"It was an up-and-down day," coach Bert Rogers said. "There were some good things."
Senior Mark Kopecki continued his strong form by setting a qualifying Big East time of 4:14.05 in the mile run. It was a personal best for him.
Juniors Anna Weber and Jayne Grebinski both recorded Big East marks in the 3,000-meters. Erynn James took first place and met Big East standards in the high jump, and Michael O'Brien, Eric Meissner, and Liz Wilkie all qualified in their respective events.
Next up for MU is Saturday's Wisconsin Elite Invitational in Madison, a warm-up for the important Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame on Feb. 6.
