Women’s Big East basketball notebook

,”DePaul ended West Virginia's nine-game winning streak and 11-game home winning streak Saturday. The Blue Demons toppled the No. 11 Mountaineers 81-80.

Sophomore guard Deirdre Naughton led DePaul with 24 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, while West Virginia's LaQuita Owens had 22 points. DePaul hit a season-high 14 three-pointers, three of which came in the last five minutes.

West Virginia hit 11-of-22 three-pointers but was outrebounded 46-32. Naughton's final three-pointer kicked off an 8-0 run, which gave DePaul a 75-69 lead with 1:39 remaining. Ashley Powell made a three-pointer at the buzzer for the Mountaineers. However, DePaul had sealed their win, hitting six free throws in the final minute.

Connecticut freshman Maya Moore was named the Big East's Freshman of the Week for the eighth time this season, which surpasses former Connecticut star Rebecca Lobo for most all-time Freshman of the Week honors.

In wins over Georgetown on Feb. 12 and then-No. 18 Pittsburgh on Feb. 17, Moore averaged a team-best 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds. Moore racked up 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting and nine rebounds at home versus Georgetown. In 21 minutes against Pittsburgh, she registered 14 points and shot 7-of-11 from the field.

Moore extended her school record of consecutive double-figure scoring games to start a career to 25.

Streaking Demon

DePaul senior guard Allie Quigley has extended her double-figure scoring streak this season to 24 with 12 points against West Virginia.

The streak actually tallies 34 games, which dates back to the 2006-'07 season. She currently leads all active conference players in scoring with a career total of 1,904.
