Marquette snapped a two-game losing streak in emphatic fashion, holding Seton Hall scoreless for a nine-minute stretch in the first half. Junior guards Wesley Matthews and Jerel McNeal each added 14 points for the Golden Eagles.

Senior center Ousmane Barro and Hayward combined to grab 16 rebounds, and Marquette outrebounded the Pirates by a 43-29 tally.

Hayward, who tied his career high in points, had outscored the entire Seton Hall team 10-8 with 5:58 remaining in the first half. Marquette led 40-22 at halftime.

Trailing by 16 with 12:49 to go in the contest, Seton Hall's Jamar Nutter elbowed junior guard Dominic James in the throat. Nutter was issued a flagrant foul and ejected from the game. James finished the game with nine points, six assists and three steals.

With the win, Marquette (17-6, 7-5 Big East) held on to sixth place in the conference standings and will square off against fifth-placed Pittsburgh at the Bradley Center Friday night.
