At that moment, so long as the papers are plentiful and stacked neatly, does any one of us consider how did this paper arrive at this destination? Do we, for even a second, ponder how this paper came to be so eloquently placed atop the metal confines that are the newspaper rack?
I would like to take this opportunity to say, "Here's to you, circulation workers' (aka paperboys).,”
Every Tuesday and Thursday morning we all casually grab a paper off the racks in our respective academic buildings and file into our classes for the dreaded hour-and-15-minute classes.
At that moment, so long as the papers are plentiful and stacked neatly, does any one of us consider how this paper arrived at this destination? Do we, for even a second, ponder how this paper came to be so eloquently placed atop the metal confines that are the newspaper racks?
I would like to take this opportunity to say, "Here's to you, circulation workers' (aka paperboys). You fierce young men struggle through rain and snow, bracing fierce winds and below-zero temperatures, all so we have our morning news and crossword. I know some of you, the unfortunate few who have 8 a.m. classes, may have actually witnessed a rugged soul relentlessly pushing the carts overflowing with papers from Johnston Hall. To these heroes of the Tribune, I salute you and your work.
So many of us have simply taken you for granted, but now we will notice the skill of your art, the poise of your delivery and the courage of your heart. Our news wouldn't be the same without you.
So great work, and I say, "Here's to you, from the man who delivers to the farthest building, to the strapping dignitary who oversees the operation, I salute you."
