Running with (or over) the Bulls
The No. 15 men's basketball team takes on South Florida Sunday for a road match-up with the always comically dismal Bulls (10-10, 1-5 Big East).
After staking a 24-21 lead over Notre Dame Sunday, South Florida remembered its role as conference floor-mat and watched the Fighting Irish go on a 21-2 run.
Surprise, surprise, South Florida ended up losing the game 82-58. This should be good news for the Golden Eagles, who tend to play to the level of their opponent, because even if things start out tight, the Bulls eventually will self-destruct as only they can.
Cheers.
In the paint with
the Bearcats
Cincinnati (12-7, 3-4) presents one of the top rebounding women's teams in the Big East, which will make the play of Marquette's frontcourt all the more important this Saturday when the Golden Eagles travel to Ohio to take on the Bearcats.
To be fair, the Golden Eagles also are near the top of the conference rebounding rankings. Sophomore forward Shelly Bellman leads Cincinnati with an average of 7.1 rebounds per game.
Leading the glass-cleaning for Marquette is senior forward Christina Quaye (6.5 per game).
Pluggin' along
The indoor season for the track and field squad continues this Friday when the team travels to South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame Invitational.
