Thumbs Up
- Second semester welcomed students back with flurries and a flurry of activities this week. Tonight's live comedy, 9 p.m. AMU Ballrooms, proves to pack the house, as usual. And of couse, the annual Snowball – not just for freshmen, by the way – will sell out. Like prom, but better (without the dates and sobriety).
- Women's basketball, ranked No. 19 in The Associated Press poll with a record of 16-2, continues the female dominance of athletics at Marquette this year.
- Sidewalks and roads on campus are clear and safe, despite the recent snowfall.
Thumbs Down
- Other than the dance and the comedians, Winter Flurry week seems like just a Late Night plus O-Fest. Better marketing could increase awareness and attendance, but who's even paying attention with the irregularity of a new semester? We're still waiting for new traditions worth endorsing.
- Women's basketball lacks the attendance found in its male counterpart, despite the women's better season thus far as well as low ticket prices.
- The city of Milwaukee should make residents sign a waiver to walk on its lethally icy walkways.
