In response to the publication of Marlo Ting's April 26 Viewpoint about Marianne Gosz, my personal hero, I can't believe The Marquette Tribune would publish something so blatantly against one of their own staff members, let alone from someone in another time zone.
It seems to me that by publishing Ting's Viewpoint, the Trib supports what he is saying.
Quite frankly, I was appalled by the Trib's actions. I can't speak for the rest of the student body, but the reason I read the Trib is because of Gosz's column. I get so tired of reading opinion pieces about the war on Iraq and gay marriage. Yes, these issues are extremely important to me and I find it fascinating to hear what my fellow students have to say about them, but when they are constantly being published, I start to zone out and just not care.
Ting writes that the point of writing an opinion piece is to inspire action in the readers and to inform, but every now and then, everyone needs a little comic relief. We love Gosz's columns and we read them because we know that she's one of the few people on this campus with enough courage to say what she really thinks. I'll say it again: all we want is a little comic relief and if it comes in the form of Marianne Gosz, then so be it. Long live the Gosz.
