That increase from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota came after a slight drop in 2002 to 1.4 million tons and a small increase to almost 1.5 million tons in 2003.
The vast majority of the waste from Illinois went to the Pheasant Run landfill in Kenosha County, which accepted 955,813 tons of Illinois garbage last year.
Morgan said it looks like the out-of-state waste total this year may be lower than last year, but she said it is too early to tell.
