Bud McKonly, chief executive officer of the Greater Milwaukee chapter of the American Red Cross, said Tuesday the move signals the transition from emergency assistance to recovery services.
About 40 units in the Highland Garden public housing project in Milwaukee are expected to be made available for evacuees, likely by the end of the week. Another 15 housing units for families will be opened in the North Lawn housing project and five in the South Lawn complex by early next week, according to housing officials.
Additional units may also be made available, bringing the total to 80, said Marvin Pratt, Milwaukee County's coordinator of hurricane relief efforts.
