A Brady Street boutique will be hosting a fashion show and silent auction Saturday at Danceworks, 1661 N. Water St.
The fashion show benefits Danceworks, a local dance company, and celebrates the two year anniversary of Vieux et Nouveau, a boutique that caters to Milwaukee's hip fashionable women.
Vieux et Nouveau carries both vintage and new clothing, jewelry and accessories. While some of the store's products are from trade shows, others are by local designers. Heidi Calaway, Vieux et Nouveau owner, stresses that the store works hard to cater to unique and individual tastes.
Danceworks, which is a nonprofit arts organization, tries to incorporate the arts and performances into the Milwaukee community, according to marketing manager Monica Rodero,
"There are three different aspects to Danceworks," Rodero said. "First is the school. We offer dance classes for children and adults of all skill levels. There is also the performance aspect; we have a company called the Danceworks Performance Company. Finally we have community outreach, where we go and work in schools and different events in the community."
All proceeds from the silent auction and the ticket prices will go toward Danceworks.
Rodero and Calaway said the event was important in helping the community.
"Vieux et Nouveau and Danceworks are in the same community," Rodero said. "We are both located on Brady Street and are part of the Brady Street (Area) Association, so this (fashion show) is a way for us to work together to help the community."
Calaway said she wanted to support a business in the Brady Street area.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with complementary appetizers from Cempazuchi restaurant, the silent auction and browsing. Fifteen local designers have donated pieces to be auctioned off along with wares from Vieux et Nouveau. Some of the designers included in the show and auction are Scandalcat, Silks by Laura, Keniq Caira and Ashley Kolln. The fashion show will be hosted by Tom Crawford from 91.7 WMSE-FM.
