It has been brought to my attention that the "Support Our Troops" table was shut down at the Alumni Memorial Union. This is a very unfortunate and downright offensive action. Especially when brave men and women are currently overseas fighting for our freedom, freedom in the Middle East and freedom around the world.
Allegedly the table was shut down because it was considered to not fit with the mission week theme of "Constructing Peace." I couldn't think of a more ridiculous reason.
Our troops' current mission is the definition of constructing peace. Peace does not happen through inaction, it happens as a result of the noble efforts of our armed forces.
This heartless action must be especially hurtful to those who are in ROTC on campus. I can only hope and pray that our proud troops know that most of us fully support them, despite cruel actions taken against them, such as this.
