2 students robbed off campus

Two freshmen were held at gunpoint and robbed at 10:20 p.m. Thursday in the 1400 block of West Highland Avenue.

An unidentified man, who appeared to be armed, confronted Scott Selling and Colin Higgins, both 18, after they had decided not to attend a party near North 15th and West State streets.

“We were walking down State Street toward 15th (Street) when we saw a suspicious-looking guy in front of us,” Higgins said.

The two turned down North 15th Street to avoid staying behind the man, because he kept looking back to check their location, he said.

The man was on the opposite side of the street when Higgins and Selling changed direction to avoid him.

“We got halfway to (North) 14th Street and he ran up from behind us,” Higgins said.

The man confronted the two students and threatened them with what they thought was a gun, but it was not officially identified.

“He came up to me, put the gun in my side and said ‘Give me your f—ing money or I’ll shoot you,'” Selling said.

The man threatened Selling first, since he was approximately 10 feet in front of Higgins, but threatened Higgins immediately afterward, the students said.

“He said to me, ‘Give me your money or I’ll shoot your ass,'” Higgins said.

Both Higgins and Selling tried to give the man just their money, but he also demanded their wallets. After getting both the cash and the wallets, the man fled the scene.

“After he got our wallets, he just turned and started running,” Higgins said.

According to the Department of Public Safety’s reports, the man took a total of $185 in cash, as well as identification and debit cards.

After the man left, the two called DPS to report the incident.

“We walked toward the rugby house and called Public Safety at the corner,” Selling said. “It was probably about five minutes after it happened.”

The Milwaukee Police Department also responded, but no one was apprehended in the incident.

“Public Safety responded quickly and was very helpful,” Selling said.
