Consultant to the counseling center attempts to have charges dismissed were denied in a preliminary hearing yesterday.
Dr. Charles Michael Grade, a consultant to the Counseling Center for the past ten years has entered a plea of not guilty.
The Commissioner of the Court Barry Slagle stated he found evidence of a felony taking place and there was sufficient evidence for the case to be taken to trial.
"I've dedicated my career to being the best doctor I can be in order to help patients who have put there trust in the field of psychiatry," according to Grade's written statement.
"Now, I place my trust in the Criminal Justice System and I look forward, with the help of my attorney to vigorously defend myself against this humiliating attack," the statement said.
Grade has been charge with three counts of sexual exploitation by a therapist.
The court heard statements from the alleged victim, which under court order her name is not to be released.
The last appointment the victim had with Grade, on Nov. 8 2006, she told the court she was wearing an apparatus. Grade was arrested later that day.
"We are looking forward to hearing the evidence the state is presenting," said Kathleen Stilling, Grade's defense attorney.
Stilling attempted to ask the victim where the apparatus was located, however Assistant District Attorney Sensitive Crimes Division, Chris Liegal objected. Stating that it was irrelevant.
According to the criminal complaint in Nov. 8 Grade and the victim engaged in sexual contact.
The victim told the court on the first day of her treatment with Grade in a 3 p.m. appointment in June or July of 2005 he told her to come back to his office at 6 p.m. She told the court when she returned to his office, after a conversation Grade removed his pants.
The victim stated that she engaged in oral sex and sexual intercourse with Grade, she also stated that at no time did she remove any of her or Grade's clothes.
"It's important to prosecute cases when someone takes advantage of a patient or client," said Liegel.
In October 2006 the criminal Grade and the victim engaged in oral sex, according to the criminal complaint.
If convicted Grade could face a fine of $25,00 or 12 and a half years in prison. Slagle also warned Grade that he is to have no contact with the alleged victim, failure to comply could result in an additional six years in prison.
