Have you ever waited for a LIMO for 20, 30, even 40 minutes? That is a really long time. Just think how much longer you would have to wait if the LIMOs went out of their way to pick people up at Valley Fields. There are times when we LIMO drivers are short on time and have to take longer to pick people up than even we would like.
Although your safety is important to us, your time constraints aren't. So, when people call the dispatcher to hitch a ride to Valley Fields, we have to tell them that it is not in our boundaries.
Also, there is no way that we all of a sudden get a whole new fleet of vans to drive people back and forth from No-Man's Land. We, just like every department here at the university, have budget constraints. Despite what you may think, we are not operating on an unlimited budget.
If you want to feel safe going to Valley Fields, then call Student Safety and ask for a walking escort. Believe it or not, the safety patrollers do go to Valley Fields, it is not out of their boundaries and they are always happy to take a detour from their normal routes to accommodate people who are too scared of homeless widows. The homeless widow comment is in response to Aaron Wegrzyn's comment made in Tuesday's Viewpoints section about being afraid of the "homeless widows" he sees.
We here at Student Safety have kept our mouths shut long enough. Myself and Rita Deering, who wrote an article in the Viewpoints section a few weeks ago, as well as all of the other LIMO drivers, dispatchers, daytime workers and safety patrollers are tired of hearing all of you complain about our service or lack thereof. It seems that all of you are still complaining about us, yet we have not seen any more applications come our way.
Haven't any of you ever heard the phrase "if you want something done right you have to do it yourself?" Well, get in here and apply for a job then. Until that day comes, just keep your mouth shut when you are on our LIMOs and enjoy the safety that other schools around the nation don't provide.
