DIY Hanging Chain Headband

chain 5

Throughout the summer, my friends and I have been crafting a lot. There are a lot of ideas online that I’ve tried and these hanging chain headbands are definitely worth sharing! They’re easy, quick and fun to make with some friends.

I picture these to be worn to a music concert or festival–something where you can show them off. These headbands look very vintage and pretty with an earthy or bohemian outfit.

I got my inspiration from lovemaegan.com where a blogger shares her fashion and DIY pieces and ideas.

All you need for this DIY look is a plastic headband, a pair of pliers and old chains/necklaces that you don’t want anymore. I used a bunch of old jewelry that I just wasn’t feeling anymore.

You can get these headbands at any local drug store. I found mine at Walgreens. They’re so 90’s.  I got the clear one because I’m blonde so it would blend in better. My friend, who has dark hair, got the dark brown one.

I don’t know if everyone has a fresh pair of pliers hangin’ around their house, but luckily I did! You just pull apart the necklaces/chains with the pliers and make the look you want. You can do a mix of gold, silver and different textures.

Then you just attach and hook the links of the chain to the plastic teeth of the headband. I suggest maybe leaving the clasp of the necklace on your chain so you can attach it easier! This way, it doesn’t take as long and you don’t have to keep pulling the links apart with the pliers. Whichever way you prefer!

Wear it like a cascading crown in straight hair!

However, the blogger even said that it doesn’t look as great in blonde hair, the chains are harder to see because it blends in with the color. I had the same problem, the headband looked a lot better in my friend who has a brunette!

Here is my headband, I left a little jewel on the chain for something different!

It turned out really nicely in her hair! And she wore it to Lolla.

Mine is a different story, my wild mane didn’t handle the chains very well. Maybe I just need new hair and it would be a million times cuter! I tried though and they were fun to make.

Try to make one before going back to school!
