Back to Basics- Little Black Dress

There are so many options for us girls when it comes to choosing what we put in our closet, including glitter, prints, spikes, stripes and patterns. But there are also the essential “basics” that you can use to personalize your look. These key pieces are versatile and help you mix and match, as well as dress your outfit up or down.

One of these key pieces include the Little Black Dress. This piece has been a classical and timeless staple since 1926, thanks to CoCo Chanel. The LBD gained popularity after the release of the film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” where Audrey Hepburn was seen in the iconic black dress.

The LBD can be worn with practically anything during any season. It is the “go to” in my eyes when I am going out with friends or do not know what to wear to an event. Dress it up or down with a pair of stilettos, combat boots, flats, or gladiators. You can also match it with a blazer, cardigan or leather jacket.

Finding an LBD, luckily, is very easy to find. Almost every designer has at least a couple styles of black dresses in their collections. There are variety of styles of LBD’s, whether it’s sleeveless, A-line, tank top, or one-shoulder.

Key hint: when shopping for the perfect LBD, walk up and down the fitting room aisle. Check to see if the dress rises up your thighs. You want to make sure this doesn’t happen. If it slides up the thighs (regardless of how fabulous it makes you look on top), in the end it’s not worthy to be in your closet. Plus you don’t want to have to be that girl consistently pulling down her dress at a party or an event, (trust me I’ve been there!). So save yourself the hassle and buy a dress that hugs your curves and flatters your figure!
