Marquette’s cross-country team wrapped up its season Friday afternoon at the Great Lake Regional Championship in Verona, Wis. Neither the men nor the women’s team will be running at the NCAA Championship in Louisville next weekend after 15th and 16th place finishes, respectively.

Senior Jack Hackett was the top men’s finisher as he placed 35th overall with a time of 32:00 for the 10,000-meter race. He does not have indoor eligibility left, so he will be spending the winter possibly training to race the 10,000-meter during outdoor season.

Seniors Connor Callahan wrapped up his cross-country career as a Golden Eagle with a 61st place finish (32:30).

Patrick Maag rolled his ankle at the Big East Cross-Country Championship, but recovered in time for one final race. He was the third runner behind Hackett for Marquette just 67 seconds behind to place 92nd.

One of the goals for Marquette was to go out and try to beat Cincinnati. It was  just four points shy.

Freshman Molly Hanson’s first place finish on the women’s side was her fifth consecutive on the season. She was 68th overall and the 6th freshman finisher with her time of 21:48 for the 6,000-meter race.

Four of the top five on the women’s side are freshmen. The pack finished within 40 seconds after Hanson crossed the finish line.

Although the season comes to an end, the hundreds of miles of training will carry over to the indoor track season, which starts in less than a month.

This week, the Marquette Tribune will take a look back at the cross-country season starting on Tuesday with a men’s season recap and Thursday with a women’s recap.
