Marquette Student Government senators introduced an amendment Monday night that would allow students to change their final exam schedules if they have three or more finals on one day.

Senator Ricky Krajewski, a senior in the College of Health Sciences, helped author the amendment, saying that more than 1,600 students are likely to have three finals all on the same day.

Krajewski said that this would provide students another form of support if professors were hesitant about rescheduling exams for students with overwhelming schedules.

The new schedule amendment will be voted on at the next senate meeting Monday at 8 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union.

Marquette Student Government President Kyle Whelton, a senior in the College of Arts & Sciences, also outlined the main goals of the new semester, noting that he would like to implement the changes discussed last year.

Whelton said  the focus would be on changes to the Student Organization Funding process, a new structure to the programs board and a successful launch for the diversity coordinator.

“We have to make sure students are educated and prepared for the SOF changes,” Whelton said. “The bulk of the rest of our term is to make sure that students are educated about our changes.”

Whelton added that other priorities would include storage space for student organizations and updated exercise equipment in residence halls.

On top of educating students about these changes, Whelton said another goal would be to make senators more accessible to students and organizations.

“It is something we have struggled with historically,” Whelton said. “We have been trying more to directly reach out to students. We want to make sure they know they can come into the office.”

Legislative Vice President Zack Wallace, a junior in the college of Arts & Sciences said MUSG is making an effort to email student organizations the hours of all the student senators.

MUSG advisor Jenifer Reid asked the senators if they knew what their office hours were for, coming to the conclusion that it is for senators to meet with students and work on MUSG-related work.
