University elects 5 new members of Board of Trustees

Marquette elected five new members to its Board of Trustees, the university announced Thursday.

The newest additions to the 34-member board include Robert Eck, Jon Hammes, Nancy Hernandez, the Rev. Patrick McGrath and the Rev. Kevin F. O’Brien.

  • Eck is an alumnus of Marquette who graduated from the Helen Way Klingler College of Arts & Sciences in 1980. He serves as the president and chief executive officer of Anixter International Inc., which is a global distributor of an array of goods from industrial communication equipment to security locks.
  • Hammes attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is the founder and managing partner of Hammes Co., which specializes in the development, financing and management of real estate assets, especially in the health care and sports industries.
  • Hernandez, who graduated from Marquette’s Graduate School of Management in 2002,  leads ABRAZO Multicultural Marketing and Communication, a leading integrated marketing firm she founded that connects companies, institutions and organizations with minority audiences. Gov. Scott Walker appointed Hernandez to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. in 2013
  • McGrath is the president of Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Ill., the largest Jesuit high school in the U.S.
  • O’Brien has been vice president for mission and ministry at Georgetown University since 2011. According to a news release, O’Brien will be in charge of sharing the  Jesuit tradition with the Marquette community through a seminars, social justice immersion programs and retreats.

“As we seek to develop new and innovative partnerships with businesses and other academic institutions, the expertise these individuals bring to the table will be invaluable,” said University President Michael Lovell in a news release. “I look forward to working with them closely to ensure we’re delivering on our promise to provide a transformational student experience that is second-to-none.”
