Playlist of the Week: Vintage Vinyl

Down in the town of University City, just outside the border of St. Louis, Mo., sits a little record store called Vintage Vinyl. The wallpaper is made from concert fliers and employees’ uniforms are old concert tees. The employees know music and you’d be hard pressed to stump them.

Johnny Hardester, a Vintage Vinyl employee, was kind enough to share his five favorites with Marquee.

In fact, this was the most concise “Playlist of the Week” we’ve encountered to date. Hardester listed his suggestions on the back of a Vintage Vinyl business card in five minutes flat.

When asked his reasons for selecting each song, he didn’t really have any. He said all these songs just evoke certain feelings—happy or sad—no matter what mood he was in before listening.

Sometimes, when you like a song, reason need not apply. Thanks for reminding us of that, Johnny.

Etta James – “At Last”

Son House – “Death Letter”

David Bowie – “Sound and Vision”

Patsy Cline – “Crazy”

Motorhead – “Ace of Spades”
